Carrizo Gorge

Our Hike started in Jamul Ca. Total miles hiked 13.2 – One way from Jamul to where the Wind Towers are located in Anza Borrego Desert

At the time it was built the Carrizo Gorge Track in the southern portion of Anza Borrego was called the “Impossible Railroad” due to the fact that it required the construction of 17 tunnels and numerous trestles to negotiate the foreboding terrain.

The spectacular Goat Canyon Trestle, completed in 1933 as part of a realignment of the San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway’s original route, is a noted San Diego County landmark. At 600′ long and 200′ high, the Goat Canyon Trestle is the longest curved and one of the highest wooden trestles in the world.

  1. Luis,
Nice pictures. It was a long hike. I did not see too much shade anywhere. You can board the train from Tijuana and it takes you to Tecate. It’s a shame that it is now full of graffiti.
